About Me

I am a writer and photographer, currently living in Vietnam. I was born in Haiti and grew up in South America and Southeast Asia. I studied at Syracuse University, where I earned an MFA in Creative Writing. I have lived and worked in Afghanistan, Bolivia, Rwanda and the Philippines.

My first novel, Moondogs, was published by Doubleday in 2011. My second (and my first for younger readers), The Winter Place, was published by Atheneum and Simon & Schuster UK in 2015. My third, How We Became Wicked, is forthcoming in July, 2019. Other fiction has appeared in Salon, Recommended Reading, The Kenyon Review and American Fiction.

I am also passionate about wildlife, and have published outdoor and nature photography with various educational and nonprofit groups. Some of my shots are available for license at Getty Images
