9/12/11: After nearly 6 months, I'm ending the Moondogs book tour with a bang. Super excited to be headed to Manila for the Manila International Book Fair! I will be signing books at Powerbooks in Greenbelt on Sept 15th at 6pm, and at the Book Fair in the SMX Convention Center on Sept 17th at 3pm. I'll also be doing interviews on Mellow 94.7 and Wave 89.1 on the morning of Sept 16th, and participating in panel discussions at the Book Fair on the 18th. I'm looking forward to coming to an old home, and hope to see you when I'm out there!

8/19/11: The Moondogs book tour is almost done! So far I've been through eight cities in the US, and my last stop will be next month in Manila! I will be signing books on September 15th at Powerbooks and September 17th at the Manila International Book Fair. More info is available HERE.

5/17/11: Very excited to have an event scheduled in Charlottesville, Virginia (where I went to college). I will be at Writer House, on Thursday evening, to discuss genre in literary fiction. Full details are available at the Writer House Website.

4/18/11: Thanks to everyone who came out to Politics and Prose in DC, and The Fountain Bookstore in Richmond! You make a jittery, neurotic writer feel downright cozy. Also, thanks to "Virginia this Morning" on CBS 6. I am posting a video of my appearance below.

3/31/11: Recently I discussed Moondogs, superheroes, living abroad and my favorite Pinoy novel--F. Sionil Jose's Gagamba with Joel Aurora over at ZYZZYVA. Many thanks to Joel for the great questions! Also, my first event is coming up; a reading at Politics and Prose, in Washington DC, on April 10th. Details HERE.

3/23/11: That was a fast (and oddly, slow) two weeks. A few more very nice reviews for Moondogs have gone up--one over at The Boston Globe and another at The Agony Column, where they said the book "kicks all kinds of ass." Also, my first interview is up over at the Breakwater Review. My buddy Calvin and I discuss cultural identity, editing, and doubt. There is a little bit of MFA inside-baseball as well.

3/14/11: After 5 years of writing this thing and then 16 months going through the publishing process, it blows my mind that tomorrow is the day. Today is also a milestone--my second published short story, Your Ascendancy, is available for free over at the awesome FiveChapters.com. This is just Part I--new little chapters will be published all week, with the whole story available on Friday. Thank you for reading!

3/12/11: Pub day is almost here, and two strong reviews have come in right out of the gate. One from the The Wall Street Journal, and another in Entertainment Weekly.

3/04/11: Moondogs has been featured as an up-and-coming title in Goodreads' March Newsletter. In other news, the book comes out in less than two weeks and I'm both terrified and very grateful (thankfully more of the second than the first).

2/17/11: Books have arrived! Had a knockout surprise yesterday to find three boxes of these beauties waiting in the lobby of my building. Doubleday has done such a stunning job with them; I'm thrilled!

2/7/11: Another day, another giveaway. This time there are 30 copies up for grabs on LibraryThing. (Did I mention that LibraryThing is also awesome?) You can enter the giveaway HERE (click on the box to the upper right). Be sure to enter by Feb 28th to be eligible!

2/5/11: BIGASS BOOK GIVEAWAY IS ON!!!!! Ok... forgive the extra exclamation points. But 45 copies of Moondogs up for grabs counts as bigass to me. It's listed by Doubleday, hosted on Goodreads. You'll need a Goodreads account to enter, but that's actually a plus, because Goodreads is awesome. Entry period ends on the 26th of this month. ENTER HERE.

1/27/11: Events are starting to come together! The first one is this coming weekend, on Feb 4, at Busboys and Poets in Washington DC. It is a reading for New Rivers Press, and you can get all the info at the FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE. I also have events scheduled for April (At Politics and Prose in Wash, DC) and May (The Downtown Writers' Center in Syracuse, NY). More info on those in the coming weeks!

1/25/11: So, with the book launch fast approaching, everybody (my agent, my friends, my cats) is telling me I need to be on twitter. You can follow me HERE!.

11/29/10: Charles Yu, author of How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe has some very kind words about my novel:

"Like one of his own characters, Mr. Yates is a bruho, endowed with magical vision that allows him to see the invisible strands of fate and luck that bind people to each other. He is also a sharpshooter, able to survey an entire city of millions, and then, in an instant, train his sights on an individual target, focusing with great precision on delicate movements of the head and the heart."

Very honored.

11/28/10: American Fiction, Volume 11 is out and available on Amazon! My first published story, Everything, Clearly appears there alongside 19 other great pieces from fantastic writers. So happy to be included!

My first publication

11/15/10: Two more nice early reviews for Moondogs! Publishers Weekly calls it a "massive misadventure" that is "surprisingly touching" (yes, I totally admit to cherrypicking here!) and the Library Journal recommends it, says things like "gritty" and "ambitious." For more check out the Reviews Section.

10/13/10: Moondogs just got its first real/big-boy/growed-up review! The kind folks over at Kirkus have given it a starred review, calling it an "unusual and unusually involving debut novel". For more on the review, tab on over to the REVIEWS section, or jump right to it on the Kirkus website HERE.

10/4/10: American Fiction, Volume 11, which contains my first short story; Everything, Clearly, will be out this fall. Everything, Clearly is a dark comedy set in upstate New York and in St. Petersburg, Russia.

9/30/10: Some spiffy new navigation just put up on the site by my kickass designer/friend, Rebecca Cullers! Navigating between pages should be a little clearer now, but the site still retains the awesome scrollingness-ness. ALSO--Lookout for some eary reviews coming soon!

8/26/10: Keith Donohue, author of The Stolen Child and Angels of Destruction just sent in a really wonderful blurb.

"Moondogs is the thrilla in Manila, a rollicking mash-up of magic and mayhem that grabs you by the collar and won't let go. Alex Yates sizzles."

Thanks so much for the kind words, Keith!

8/3/10: Roy Kesey, author of All Over and Nothing in the World has some very nice things to say about my novel!

"The greatest of Yates' many talents is his ability to make us feel like insiders in so many different worlds and minds. He has Elmore Leonard's logistical chops and Charles Portis' sense of humor but the juggling act of Moondogs is entirely his own—and nothing ever touches the ground."

Thank you, Roy!

7/20/10: Moondogs just got an on-sale date! What up, 3/15/11? You just got a whole lot awesomer, a whole lot sillier, a whole lot more violent, and (one hopes) a tiny bit more honest and real. Yes, that's the tagline for the villanious chicken book. "Honest and Real"...

7/12/10: The Advanced Reader's Edition of Moondogs arrived this weekend! The designers at Doubleday did such a stunningly beautiful job with it--I'm honored to have my words looking so damn swanky and awesome.

The Advanced Edition is Here!

6/30/10: My new website is live as of today! (Though that does render preceeding news items a little suspect.) Check back here for the latest info on Moondogs, my debut novel, as well as publicity info, appearances and other fiction I am publishing. AND THANKS FOR THE VISIT!

6/25/10: American Fiction, Volume 11, containing my first published story: Everything, Clearly has a release date! It will be available on October 1st, and contains 20 fantastic short stories from establish writers (not me!) and emerging ones (me!). You can pre-order it from Amazon here!

6/19/10: The Advanced Reader's Edition of Moondogs should be finished in early July. Now, what an Advanced Reader's Edition is, I'm not entirely shure, but I know that it will be circulated to reviewers, bookstores and other writers. Here's hoping everybody loves it as much as mom does! I will also be getting a few copies of the advanced edition, and am looking forward to seeing my words all bound up, dressed for an evening on the town.  It'll be the first time that's ever happened. My words are normally shut-ins, playing playstation and drinking diet cola, chasing the cat.

6/11/10: Got permission today to use the awesome woodcuts designed by Rebecca Cullers and cut by Emily Bender in Moondogs! I am reposting them below!
